1992 — Sheridan, Wyoming

Chauncy and Kelli Johnson meet in their hometown of Sheridan, WY. United by a lifelong love of skiing and snowboarding, their shared passion carries them through marriage, family, and countless days on the mountain.

2010 — Casper, Wyoming

On Christmas Eve, tragedy strikes. A snowboarder traveling at approximately 50 mph collides with Kelli and their five-year-old daughter, Elise.

The collision claims the lives of Elise and the snowboarder. Kelli survives but suffers life-altering injuries, including a severe traumatic brain injury, injuries she continues to live with today.

Chauncy, Kelli, and their family are forever changed.

2016 — Thermopolis, Wyoming

Determined that their loss would not be in vain, Chauncy and Kelli partner with the National Ski Areas Association to promote collision awareness.

Together, they help launch the #RideAnotherDay safety campaign, bringing education and awareness to ski communities across the country.

2023 — Thermopolis, Wyoming

The Snow Angel Foundation is officially founded as a 501(c)(3).

Born from unimaginable loss and unwavering resolve, the Foundation’s mission is clear: to prevent ski and snowboard collisions through education and awareness—so everyone can make it home safely after a day on the mountain.

With growing partnerships, impactful events, and a rapidly expanding grassroots following, the Snow Angel Foundation is becoming one of the ski industry’s strongest voices for collision prevention.
